80 kms away from Kundapur, on the banks of the river Nandini there is a famous temple dedicated to Durga Parameshwari. Kateel is considered as one of the holiest temple towns of HinduismDevi Durga, who is a Swayambu Linga (self-manifested),is covered with gold. Also installed in the sanctum is an awe inspiring image of the Goddess in sitting posture holding Shanku and Chakra.Entry in the temple is through Dwajasthamba Mandapa.

Yakshagana dashavathara mela which was started as an offering to the goddess is celebrated all over with great joy and enthusiasm. During dussera, navaratri and other annual celebrations several sacred rituals like, Chandika havana, thula bhaara, veda parayana, hari kathas etc are performed. Annual festival, Laksha Deepothsava, Sharannavarathri, Yakshagaana, and Navratri are celebrated . Thousands of devotees flock to the temple to seek blessings from Durga Maheshwari.
