About Jalakandeswarar Temple

As indicated by legend, there used to a goliath ant colony at the area where the sanctum sanctorum of temple now stands. This ant colony was encompassed by dormant water, because of accumulation of rain water, and sooner or later a Shiva Lingam was put in this water around the ant colony and worshiped. Chinna Bommi Nayaka, a Vijayanagar chieftain, who was controlling the fortification had a fantasy where the Ruler Shiva requesting that he fabricate a temple at that area. Nayaka, continued to obliterate the ant colony dwelling place and construct the temple in 1550 Promotion, and since the Lingam was encompassed by water (called Jalam in Tamil) the god was called as Jalakandeswarar (interpreted as "Master Siva living in the water"). The temple was worked amid the rule of the Vijayanagaram lord Sadasivadeva Maharaya (1540 - 1572 Advertisement). The temple likewise has the statue of Sri Akhilandeshwari Amma, the associate of Jalakandeswarar.

Behind the Nandi statue, there is an earthen light, which is said to spin when a few people put their hands on it. The spinning is said to demonstrate that their desires have been conceded.
