About Jain Temple

Katraj Jain Temple is on the Pune-Satara Highway and is set on a hilltop, from where we can get a superb view of the city of Pune. There is a golden shaded panch-dhatu idol of Lord Mahavir, in Padmasan, a sitting position which is 12 ft tall and weighs about 5000 kg. A separate temple of Parshwanath Bhagwan called, Jal Mandir (Water Temple), lies behind the main temple, which is also made of panch-dhatu, with 8 ft tall and 3000 kg weight.

Katraj Jain Temple contains 24 tirthankars idols. There are idols of Bhagwan Mahaveer, Bhagwan Parshwnath and goddess Padmavati. The main temple is surrounded by four small Jain god temples. All the walls on outer temples have some Jain scripts (stotra) written in Pali and Prakrit languages. The whole atmosphere is very calm & peaceful.

Devotees have to remove their shoes before entering the temple. This place is completely away from the noisy & polluted environment. This temple is the biggest & popular Jain temple in Pune.

By Air: If one wishes to visit this place by air, then he or she has to fly to Pune. Since Pune is the major city, it is connected to other major cities in the Maharashtra as well as out of the Maharashtra. From Pune airport, one may choose to prefer a local bus for the Katraj Jain Temple or an auto.

By Rail: Pune is well connected to the major cities in the Maharashtra as well as out of the Maharashtra by train as well.  As soon as one gets down to the Pune Railway Station he or she may catch local buses or autos for the Katraj Jain Temple.

By Road: Since this place is located in the heart of Pune city, one has to reach to Pune first. There are many State run buses available that run between Pune and other major cities in the Maharashtra as well out of the Maharashtra. Once one reaches to Pune, there are many local buses available from the main stations like Swargate or Pune Station etc that take visitors to Katraj Jain Temple or one may also option for an auto.
